Workshop Outline The European Summer School is a school attended by students from around the world, at which top researchers from different countries give lectures on topics from plasma basics to cutting-edge technologies. The Japan-Germany International Student Workshop is a workshop led by students and young researchers, offering them an opportunity to deepen their exchanges of opinions and information.
Dates October 4 (departure) to October 16 (return), 2008
Venues European Summer School: Bad Honnef, Germany
(approx. 60 km south of Düsseldorf, 15 km south of Bonn)
International Student Workshop: Bochum, Germany
(approx. 50 km northeast of Düsseldorf)

International Student Workshop: Participants will be informed of details later.
Application Criteria 1) Applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral course or in the second year of a master’s course at a research institution in Japan, and must be carrying out research related to plasma science or applications.

2) Participants must take part in the School or Master Class of the European Summer School, and participate in the School’s poster session. They must also give a lecture at the following Student Workshop held in Bochum, and actively contribute to the organization of the workshop.

Notes 1) Applications via this program will have priority among applicants from Japan for the European Summer School.

2) Students accepted for this program must register for themselves for the European Summer School and the Student Workshop.

3) It is hoped that students will take the opportunity of participating in this workshop to apply for a long-term placement at Ruhr-Universität Bochum.

4) In presentations at the Summer School or Student Workshop, it must be mentioned that these presentations are given thanks to a grant from this project, and the following text must be included in any abstracts of proceedings or other publications.

“This work was supported by the JSPS International Training Program (ITP).”

5) This program will not provide any compensation for any accident or other loss or injury during the duration of the placement. The placement student is required to take out travel insurance on his/her own behalf.
(The fact that insurance has been taken out will be confirmed before departure.)

6) Participants are responsible for paying the fees required to obtain a passport and other costs such as conference attendance fees and the cost of attending receptions.

7) Participants must submit a report following the workshop (in Japanese and English)
